About the Blog

This blog offers reflections and ideas about how scholars in the humanities conduct research and teach students how to research with a focus on processes and methods, finds and disappointments.

I am a historian of the nineteenth-century United States, and my work focuses on religion, race, and gender with particular regard to the abolitionist movement and Protestant missionaries. I have taught a variety of classes including U.S. history surveys and women’s history and seminars on utopian thought and practice, marriage in U.S. history, and humanitarianism.
